Join the Working Group in Humanities Informatics
The recently established Humanities Informatics Initiative invites expressions of interest from faculty and graduate students seeking involvement in this project, which received funding from the office of the Vice President for Research under a program of the Telecommunications and Informatics Task Force. The initiative is a joint effort of the Center for the Study of Digital Libraries, the Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research, and the Texas A&M University Libraries. Together they invite interested faculty and students to join them in the following efforts:
To continue an interdisciplinary working group to investigate the effects of information technology on scholarly practices and research tools in the humanities, to explore new models of interdisciplinary research, to develop new computing tools for humanities informatics, to create digital collections and archives, and to explore means of obtaining institutional and project support from internal and external sources.
-
To implement two new programs administered through the Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research (http://www.tamu.edu/chr):
Humanities Informatics Project Seed Grants: Faculty and graduate students hoping to initiate projects in humanities informatics may seek seed money from the Glasscock Center. The grants will not provide complete support for projects but are intended to provide critical resources needed to initiate them or to attract external funding to carry them out. Topics to be considered for funding include resources for database development, support for initial digitization, initial materials acquisition, and computers/peripherals needed for prototype demonstration.
Workshop and Symposium Support: The Glasscock Center will entertain proposals for support of occasional workshops and/or distinguished lectures to foster interdisciplinary exchange among scholars working in the field of humanities informatics both within and outside Texas A&M University.
-
To sponsor public lectures on Humanities Informatics on the Texas A&M campus during the 2004/2005 academic year.
-
To maintain a Humanities Informatics portal through the Texas A&M University Libraries institutional repository.
